Historical costume dramas rarely get sequels — you don't see The Madness of King George 2: Die Madder or Amadeus Begins. So the fact that the creative team behind the critically acclaimed 1998 film Elizabeth — director Shekar Kapur and stars Cate Blanchett and Geoffrey Rush — are returning to tackle Her Majesty's ongoing adventures is cause for excitement. The first trailer for the sequel, Elizabeth: The Golden Age, has been released and, despite having to adhere in some regard to the facts of history, it still manages to deliver the tried and true sequel formula: bigger threats, more sinister villains, and more sweeping romance.
