The Golden Compass may be New Line's attempt to recapture the magic of The Lord of the Rings trilogy, but then again, there weren't any armored polar bears in Helm's Deep. Based on the first book in Philip Pullman's bestselling fantasy series His Dark Materials, Compass is the story of Lyra Belacqua, a 12-year-old living amongst Oxford scholars who intends to find her missing best friend, regardless of time and space. About a Boy director Paul Weitz is helming the film, which stars Kidman, as well as Casino Royale costars Craig and Green as the adults Lyra meets along the way.
