It was a shameful day for men's figure skating: After tying for the gold medal at the 2002 International Championship Awards, bitter enemies Chazz (Ferrell) and Jimmy (Heder) brawled hockey-style during the ceremony. Banned from singles competition for life, they both eventually realize that a loophole in the rules means they could skate again in pairs. "No woman will skate with either of them because of the incident," says Heder, who was on the ice for several months before filming and broke his ankle while performing a complicated spin just weeks into practice. "Not only do they have to skate with another guy, [it's] a guy who's their mortal enemy." But differences are soon left outside the rink, and the unlikely couple find themselves back in competition against a brother-sister duo (real-life marrieds Arnett and Poehler), whose creepy-close relationship raises a few eyebrows. As for the chemistry between Ferrell and Heder, "We had some moments out there, a couple of magic moments, after they yelled cut," says Heder. "We kept on skating, so they just kept rolling."
