Surf's Up!

What's black and white and wet all over? A surfing penguin, of course. In this animated "documentary" (think Point Break meets This Is Spinal Tap, with penguins), LaBeouf voices Cody Maverick, a young bird with a longboard and big dreams to win Pen Gu Island's annual Big Z Memorial Surf-Off. "He's, like, the newbie who can't do shit — a grommet, a peon surfer," says LaBeouf, who began riding waves himself when he was eight. Bridges voices Cody's mentor, the Geek, "an overweight king penguin who was once a great surfer," says producer Chris Jenkins, who got the actor's attention by showing him early animation of the character set to some of Bridges's dialogue as the Dude in The Big Lebowski. "When Jeff saw it, he fell in love with it. There was nobody else: He was the right guy."
