Schepisi offers a brave and endearing account of four men grieving the loss of their best friend. The bittersweet British drama, based on the Booker Prize-winning novel by Graham Swift, tells the story of the recently deceased Jack (Caine), whose dying wish is to be cremated and for his three closest pals and his son to drive together to a remote part of England to scatter his ashes in the sea. Of Jack's request, Schepisi notes, "By asking them to do this strange trip, he's kind of saying, 'Look at us. Look at the fun we had.' "
