Release Date: Fall 2006
“It’s kind of a Road Warrior–Spinal Tap combo,” says Jack Black, one-half of the devilish duo Tenacious D, of the D’s first full-length feature. Beginning with the legendary meeting between compadres-in-rock J.B. (Black) and K.G. (Gass), the film will highlight their quest to become the greatest band on earth. “Me and Kyle meet, he teaches me to rock, and we form the band,” says Black. “We’re awesome, but we’re not on the level of a Beethoven or a Led Zeppelin. So I’m like, ‘What is it that they have that we don’t have?’ We realize that the greatest bands in history have all used the same guitar pick, and so it’s a quest to find this pick.” It’s a journey of epic proportions that takes the two heroes far beyond the local Guitar Center. And the origins of the pick? “I’m not telling you that,” says Black. “That you gotta pay for. But I’ll say this: It has something to do with a wizard and a devil.” Of course it does.
