The Bourne Supremacy Release Date: July 23, 2004 Starring: Matt Damon, Franka Potente, Joan Allen, Brian Cox, Julia Stiles Directed by: Paul Greengrass
Two years have elapsed since we left former CIA assassin Jason Bourne (Damon) and Marie Kreutz (Potente) on that island paradise in The Bourne Identity. “They’re on the run, and we find them living in India,” says Damon. “He’s still plagued by nightmares and this paranoia that they’re coming for him. And, in fact, they are.” As with the original, the plot is only loosely based on the Robert Ludlum novel of the same name; director Greengrass (Bloody Sunday) has taken over from Doug Liman, who chose to do Mr. and Mrs. Smith instead. But the movie still rests squarely within the Bourne tradition, promising just one big explosion and several exotic locales. “We did the car chase scene in Moscow,” says producer Frank Marshall (Seabiscuit). “We had some mornings where it was so cold we couldn’t get the car started.”
Acting His Age: Damon did
all of his own fighting and stunts in both Bourne movies—and with good
reason: “I look like Opie,” he says. “I’m 33 years old, but I look like I’m
about 14. And are people going to believe that I’m this guy? All we’re trying
to do is make the story more entertaining, fun, and believable, basically.”
