Did you know? The Rock has a 'Game Plan.' And there's a 'Goal II.' Finally, the 'Trade' (the last of which has absolutely nothing to do with sports).
The Game Plan
Is Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson the greatest functional post-modernist of all time? It's like there's no effort at all involved in lampooning his tough-guy-Republican pro-wrestling image in the likes of Be Cool and completely buying into said image in don't-worry-your-agency-isn't-watching fare such as this, in which he plays a loner quarterback who — wait, somebody come re-stitch my sides — discovers he has a 7-year-old daughter who he must now escort to ballet school! How thoroughly funny is that? Not all that thoroughly, given its indifferent marketing. Still — The Rock. He's unusually game, no?
Goal II: Living the Dream
A soccer suspenser featuring David Beckham playing himself. Our own dream is the return of Pele, which this film is not.
Trade
Based on a controversial New York Times Magazine article, this film addresses the issue of sex trafficking in Mexico. Kevin Kline plays a Texas cop who pursues the profiteering pervs — although the idea of Kevin Kline playing a Texan somehow reminds us of those ads in which they make fun of guys who get their picante fix from "New York Ciiiity!"
