John Leguizamo Shoots Up
And gives PREMIERE the straight dope on why he's so good at playing a speed freak in Spun
By Nicole Kristal
PREMIERE: You really look like you're tweaking in Spun. How'd you do that?
You've got to have something chemical going on. I kept caffeine and sugar in my body constantly and ran around so my heart was racing before I went on camera.
This isn't your first drug scene.
In Summer of Sam, I inhaled a lot of powder. It's usually sugar or baking powder. It starts to get really caked in your nose. You've got to do the same nostril for continuity. That's what's nasty.
So was shooting up in Spun any easier?
[You use] a needle that you can push into your skin, but it's a flat needle so [when] you push it in, it makes a little indentation without going through.
But we see a needle in your arm...
That wasn't me.
So who is it?
They got a stunt arm. [laughs] I ain't about to do that shit.
