In Mike Leigh's latest film, Sally Hawkins (Vera Drake, Cassandra's Dream, Persuasion) plays Poppy, a primary schoolteacher who enjoys nothing more than a night out with her best girlfriends, riding her bike around London, and doing arts and crafts with her students. Unfortunately, she is more often than not faced with things that could make her less than happy-go-lucky — a schoolyard bully with troubles at home, a stolen bike, and an spittingly angry driving instructor, played by Eddie Marsan (Vera Drake, The Illusionist). In the end, though, she keeps on rowing.
