Premiere Q&A: Patton Oswalt

Is there a role you'd kill to play?
Oh boy, yeah. I mean, I'd never want to be in a remake because movies that I really love, I don't want to be the guy re-doing a performance that I love. I would love to play, like, either Toadvine or Glanton in Blood Meridian, that novel by Cormac McCarthy. I'd love to play Wacky, who's the doomed cop if they ever make James Ellroy's Clandestine into a movie — that would be really fun. There's a few comic book characters — I'd love to play the original Wesley Dodds, who was the Golden Age Sandman. That would be really, really interesting. I know they were developing a movie about the life of William Gaines, the guy who did Mad magazine, and I'd love to play that role. That would be really, really fun.

There was a rumor floating around for a while that they were going to do the Justice League movie with motion-capture animation, similar to Beowulf. Maybe you could play Batman.
No, no, no…please. You can hear the Twinkies in my voice.

With DVDs coming out so soon after the theatrical release, does it feel like you never quite leave a film? How long have you been with Ratatouille?
Since 2005. Yeah. It's been quite a while.

So is this it, then?
Until there's a ride at Disney or something. A big cheese flume or something.
