NICK: But, I think there's also that thing where we're at a certain point in our careers where we kind of have the ability to say, "Well, we'd like to do it like this." And people trust us a little bit more after Hot Fuzz. So it's that ability to say, "No, we don't make it like this…so you can either trust us or…fuck off!" [laughs]

What is the status of your two comic-book adaptations: Ant-Man and Scott Pilgrim's Precious Little Life?
EDGAR: They are both in the writing stages. I wrote a draft of Scott Pilgrim before we started Hot Fuzz and Ant-Man as well. And me and Simon have an idea for, like, the third in this trilogy [alongside Shaun and Fuzz]. But Simon's filming at the moment, so when we get back to London, we'll try to write that as well.

What is the tone of Ant-Man, one of Marvel Comics' slightly lesser-known heroes?
EDGAR: I don't want it to be a superhero spoof, because superhero spoofs and man-in-tights spoofs have absolutely been done to fucking death — after The Incredibles, which is sort of the last word on superhero parody. So it's going to be something different. It's going to be funny, but in a different way other than just, "Hey, he's small!" [laughs] When it was first pitched to me, somebody said, "It's Honey, I Shrunk the Superhero." And I said, "I would do everything except that film." [laughs]

NICK: It's not a bad idea… [both laugh]

As action film lovers, what's your take on Summer 2007?
EDGAR: I saw Live Free or Die Hard, which I enjoyed aside from the fact that it clearly had been re-edited from an R to a PG-13. It was as plain as could be. It was the only time I've come out of the cinema feeling like I'd just watched the airline version of the film. All of the F-words had been taken out. You can tell. I mean, the action is great, but you could tell that Bruce Willis and Justin Long were swearing on the day [of shooting] and redubbed. When you've got Knocked Up and Superbad that are R-rated films, why isn't Die Hard a fucking R? Nobody under 13 even knows who John McClane is! [laughs] Aside from that, I did think it was pretty good and I was pleasantly surprised. Transformers was fun — dumb fun. I sat too close to the screen, so Michael Bay exacted his revenge on me by giving me an epileptic fit. I got there too late and we all sat too close to the front and it was just like—

NICK: You were covered in Bay.

EDGAR: I had a Michael Bay–inflicted embolism.
