Timothy Olyphant Offers Up a Download on 'Live Free or Die Hard'
Since your character is a computer hacker, is it just a coincidence that Bruce Willis teams up with "The Mac Computer Guy" Justin Long?
I would say to Len, "I think it would be kind of fun if I hit the Mac guy." Why? Because, I don't know, it just feels like there's a lot of people out there who probably want to hit the Mac guy — the PC users. And there's no reason not to. I think the reason I got the part was because the guy who plays the PC in the Mac commercial turned it down. [laughs] He apparently had better things to do, so they came to me.
In your opinion, what is it that makes the Die Hard films so appealing?
My buddy told me the greatest story about when he first saw the first Die Hard. He was in this packed movie theater and 10 minutes into it a guy about seven rows up just stood up and said, "No action!" and he turned and walked out of the theater. It just kills me because if he had stayed just 15 minutes more he would have seen one of the great popcorn movies of all time. The first movie was so character-driven, and that's why it took a while before it started up. But it still comes down to this great character that Bruce played so well and everybody connected to: the everyday man. I really do appreciate the opportunity they gave me, because I've never played such an integral role in something that is very likely going to be quite the blockbuster. And the fact that they invited me to play along was great.
