BEVERLY HILLS, CALIFORNIA, SEPTEMBER 21, 2005 — Charlize Theron, Rachel Weisz, Laura Linney, Shirley MacLaine and costume designer Sophie de Rakoff were honored as Premiere Women in Hollywood Icons at the 12th Annual Premiere Women in Hollywood ceremony at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills last night. Lindsay Lohan received the Spotlight Award for Emerging Talent, presented by Chanel. The ceremony, an evening honoring women singled out by Premiere for their achievements in the film industry, will be televised for the second year, on AMC on Sunday, October 2, 2005 at 10 PM (ET/PT). The television special — "AMC Presents Premiere Magazine's Women In Hollywood" — will feature exclusive interviews with the honorees, red carpet appearances and rare access to the dinner and ceremony, and will air within a movie festival spotlighting several of Hollywood’s top actresses.

In the Women in Hollywood October 2005 issue of Premiere (on newsstands on September 13), this year’s honorees discuss how they feel about everything from honing their craft to the public’s perception of them.

Charlize Theron: “The body is such a great vehicle to tell a story, one that gets neglected. Or when people do use it, they get criticized…:“Well, that’s just a trick to win an Oscar.’ But that’s what we’re supposed to do. We’re not supposed to look like or be ourselves.”

Rachel Weisz: “[The Fountain director Darren Aronofsky] and I have been together for over four years…most couples agree that, if they work separately, their partner doesn’t really get to see a certain part of them. I got to meet the director, and he got to meet the actress. It’s very attractive to see someone be good at something.”

Laura Linney: “When I first got out of Juilliard, I was “cold” and “unattractive.”....”Then I went to being “just not sexy.”...Now, I guess, people are realizing that, yes, I actually do have sexuality. As a human being, you have to just take all that with a grain of salt and not give it too much power.”

Shirley MacLaine: “I’m…enjoying the experience of aging: There’s something to do with getting older that gives you the right to express any feeling you have.”

Sophie de Rakoff: “The most important thing people should know about costume designers is…it’s about creating a character. It’s not about dressing somebody to go to the Oscars.”

Lindsay Lohan: I can’t put all of my focus on what other people are going to think. I’m over that. Everyone’s already thought everything about me.”
