Steve Zahn: Scene Stealer
Steve Zahn gets gritty in the desert caper 'Sahara.'

Need a guy to sport a white-trash 'stache? Steve Zahn is your man. With his impeccable timing and wiseass demeanor, the 36-year-old Minnesota native has lent his comic talents to such films as That Thing You Do! and Daddy Day Care. In March's Sahara, he and Matthew McConaughey play explorers searching for a civil war battleship in the African desert. "As you get older, younger guys come along," he says. "I wasn't sent the script for Dude, Where's My Car?, so I was like, "Wow, I'm really moving up."

OUT OF SIGHT (1998)
In Steven Soderbergh's classic crime caper, Zahn plays a stoner who helps orchestrate the robbery of a Detroit mansion.

"The first time I saw it was during the L.A. premiere. I was sitting in front of [costar] Don Cheadle, and halfway through it, I turned around and he was looking at me with a huge smile on his face. I actually high-fived him. We were both like, "We're part of a great movie! It's so great to be in a great movie!"

HAPPY, TEXAS (1999)
In this Sundance favorite, Zahn, while posing as a beauty pageant expert, teaches a group of girls how to, uh, dance.

"The director said, 'We have a choreographer to choreograph some stuff,' and I said, 'You know what? Just trust me on this. Set up two cameras, we'll do it three times, and I'm just gonna go crazy and do some nutty shit.' And that's what happened."

NATIONAL SECURITY (2003)
Zahn sported a truly unfortunate crop-top coif in this Martin Lawrence buddy-cop comedy.

"Before filming began, I looked like Grizzly Adams, with a full beard and long hair. Once it was almost time to do the movie, I told my wife, 'I'm not going to let them cut my hair, because they are going to do something stupid.' So I went to her hair guy and said, 'I want a flat top, and can you shave my forehead?' When I would go out with my brother-in-law to a bar, he would say, 'Dude, everyone is moving away from you because they think you're a cop."
