DVD REVIEW

Movie:
1/2
Disc:

The Movie: Five years and an exorbitant back-end deal later, Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones reacquaint themselves as the ever cocky Agent Jay and forever cranky Agent Kay, a couple of top-secret, gizmo-carrying dudes who police the activities of Earth's extraterrestrial immigrants. The sequel's perfunctory plot involves a tentacled alien-cum-Victoria's Secret model (Lara Flynn Boyle) who threatens to destroy humanity blah blah blah, but the cosmically thin premise merely acts as scenery for Mr. Smith to chew and Mr. Jones to deadpan against. Wackiness sporadically ensues.

The Disc: The only thing missing from this franchise are the Chicken McNuggets, which could also be said for the profusion of bonus features on this two-disc set. The production featurettes are surprisingly terse and entertaining, appropriately praising veteran creature-maker Rick Baker, composer Danny Elfman, and the most adorable stunt pug in the biz. Further additional material might seem excessive, such as the multiangle scene deconstructions, but none are as pointless as the accidentally funny Barry Sonnenfeld's Intergalactic Guide to Comedy, which proves that the director has the comic timing of a two-bit Sid Caesar impersonator.
