Dr. T and the Women
Release Date: October 8, 2002
Starring: Richard Gere, Helen Hunt, Farrah Fawcett, Shelley Long, Laura Dern
Directed by: Robert Altman

(Artisan Home Entertainment; $24.98)

Robert Altman's beguiling, insightful satire, about a Dallas gynecologist (Richard Gere) who's surrounded — and overwhelmed — by women, offers a beguiling, insightful audio commentary, featuring Altman, screenwriter Anne Rapp, Gere, and nine other actors, including Tara Reid and Shelley Long. This breadth of voices, which chime in on subjects ranging from researching that curious species, Dallas society women, to improvising in Dr. T's busy office ("a henhouse on amphetamines," Long says), makes the esprit de corps of an Altman set sound like genuine fun. In the end, you have to agree with Laura Dern: "Altman loves women."
