40) HARVEY AND BOB WEINSTEIN
RANK LAST YEAR: 29.
TITLE: Company Men.
2005 DOMESTIC BOX OFFICE: $400 million.
HITS: Sin City, Transamerica.
FLOPS: Mindhunters, The Great Raid.
STATUS REPORT: The fire sale of titles such as The Great Raid and Mindhunters (both shot in 2002) was hardly an auspicious ending for their Miramax tenure, but onward and upward. Newly named Weinstein Company got off to a bullish start, collecting a better-than-expected $1.2 billion from Wall Street investors, who hope that Harvey’s freewheeling days are over. New slate remixes Miramax’s greatest hits—highbrow and Dimension genre fare. Scary Movie 4 shrieked out a $40 million opening weekend.
NEXT: School for Scoundrels, Grind House.
YES, IT’S TRUE: During their 26 years running Miramax, the Weinsteins racked up 249 Oscar nominations.
