STATUS REPORT: Lobbed some laughs into Mr. and Mrs. Smith, and his $209 million-minting Wedding Crashers reinvigorated the R-rated comedy and his top-liner status. Deftly dodging prerelease publicity with costar and girlfriend Jennifer Aniston for June’s antiromantic comedy The Break-Up.

NEXT: Reteaming with Crashers director David Dobkin for holiday comedy about Santa’s degenerate brother Fred, for a rumored $20 million payday; producing Speed Racer.

YES, IT’S TRUE: Fox balked at casting Vaughn for Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, wanting to hire Ashton Kutcher or Colin Hanks instead.
