Watchmen (Imax)
A film even Alan Moore will find hard not to like.
The Pitch: Set in the 1980’s at the height of the Cold War, a group of costumed avengers must try to live a normal life after a law bans them from fighting crime. But, when one of them is murdered, a chain reaction of events occurs that changes the entire world.
High Points: The film really does the graphic novel justice. Sure, there will be some fans upset that the ending doesn’t exactly replicate what’s in the book, but the whole thing works, especially for the non-comic audience. Plus, the music is perfect, especially the opening montage set to Bob Dylan’s, “The Times They Are a-Changin.”
Low Points: Runtime is right around 2:20 and the complex plot makes a pee break out of the question so you’ll probably want to hold off on the drinks before and during the film. Also, there are subtle differences between the movie and the graphic novel, which the hard core Alan Moore faithful will be quick to point out. On the internet. With caps lock.
Final Thoughts: With all the hype and buildup for this film there was a high bar set, but Snyder did a great job creating a film that’s loyal to both the source material and his own style
