The Wrestler
It lives up to the hype and then some.
Mickey Rourke in The Wrestler
The Pitch: Former big-time wrestler Randy "The Ram" Robinson tries to find redemption in and out of the ring with his daughter, a stripper, and one last big fight.
The High Points: Mickey Rourke. This role is him -- puffy face, battle-tested body, wiry hair -- and is so raw at times it hurts to watch; even though it has a down-and-out depressing plot it still has some good laughs.
The Low Points: None. It'll make you a little sad, but so will watching any professional wrestling event.
The Music: Once again, Clint Mansell's soundtrack is amazing. Sometimes all we hear is white noise or buzzing, but it makes the audience actually feel Randy getting dizzy or his fury growing to a frightening conclusion. Pop Will Eat Itself, indeed!
Don't Forget: Rourke is getting tons of press and award nominations, but Marisa Tomei kicks ass too. Not only does the one-time Oscar winner look amazing and perform her own pole tricks, but she effectively humanizes what could be just another naked chick in a movie.
