Movie Rating:

The Pitch: Ben Thomas (Smith) is an IRS man with a tragic secret (!) who is on a mission to find seven strangers worthy of … something secret!

The High Points: Dawson is lovely to watch, and when Smith isn't furrowing his brow and looking concerned, he's not so bad himself; Dawson's character also has a really cool spotted Great Dane named Duke.

The Low Points: Smith does, in fact, spend the majority of the film furrowing his brow and looking concerned; his mission and tragic secret are obvious, and his actions are ludicrous (does an IRS man really interview people to find out if they're good people so he can give them a break on their audit… or show up in their garden pulling weeds?).

Take It Easy, Dr. Phil: Smith's character is also kind of a dick – in one scene, he shouts at an abused woman who he's trying to help, "Don't be weak!" Because that always works, right? He also harangues a blind man over the phone to make sure he's really a "good" person and slow to anger – "A blind vegan meat salesman?!" The outcome will make you want to throw a shoe at the screen.

Also: Director Muccino did The Pursuit of Happyness with Smith, so maybe they're on a mission to make an emotionally draining holiday movie every year or two.

Box Office Blast: This will probably do really well at the box office because Smith is a likeable guy who generally plays likeable characters. Audiences will find he's not so likeable this time around.

I'm Ashamed to Admit: I cried at the end. I had no choice. They made me do it.

The fact that people are so upset that they have been "emotionally manipulated" by this movie is down right laughable. This was a great movie to watch. I am so sick of all the nonsensical fluff that Hollywood churns out. It's really great to see Will Smith use his celebrity to flesh out such an interesting character. And Rosario Dawson was absolutely fantastic in this film turning in her best performance to date. This just goes to show that you can't always just blindly listen to movie reviews. Sometimes you need to watch for yourself.

I think its a safe bet to assume the reviewer picked up on the fact that he wasn't really an IRS agent; she just didn't want to give a crucial plot point away and ruin it for someone who hasn't yet seen the movie, as you have just managed to do so aptly.

I agree with above comment. Yes the movie had some problems, but had you been paying attention you would know he wasn't REALLY an IRS agent. And the yelling... he's talking to a woman who doesn't want help and is being stubborn. It's called tough love. He had a reason behind everything he was doing. Next time you want to write a review, pay better attention to the film.
You must watch it twice!

If you really watched it you would know she knew he was'nt the IRS,she had just fallin for him anyway(Love at first sight!).He yelled at the women out of frustration, and the blind man to get a reponce. You did'nt really know what was going on untill the middle of the movie,it was almost like reading a book.I couldn't get enough of that movie!Great Man,Great Movie! 4 stars in my eye's!
