Frost/Nixon
A fantastic adaptation of the Broadway play.
Frank Langella and Michael Sheen in Frost/Nixon
The Pitch: Toothy British talk show host David Frost decides to amp up his career by interviewing Tricky Dick. Problem is, no advertisers, TV stations or colleague thinks the playboy can crack the former prez. Will he be able to get Nixon to confess or apologize on national TV, or will he go broke and doom his career?
The Background: Ron Howard decided he wanted to direct a movie adaptation of screenplay writer Peter Morgan’s play after seeing it in London. Langella and Sheen reprise their roles as Nixon and Frost, respectively. The play won awards, Morgan’s won awards, and Oscar watchers expect the movie to win some awards too.
What is Really is: A totally mesmerizing battle of the wills between the occasionally charming yet wily Nixon and the increasingly desperate Frost. Supporting roles are bolstered by Kevin Bacon as Nixon’s ex-military pitbull Chief of Staff and Platt and Rockwell as the crackerjack researchers dying to crucify Nixon.
Bonus Movie Fact: Michael Sheen is playing the Cheshire Cat in Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland! We couldn't get him to comment on how his character will be portrayed, but we’re hoping Burton makes him wear a giant cat suit.
